Well i got an appt at a chiropractor this afternoon. Ive been having real bad pains down my right leg and my lower back epically after sitting down for a while or driving. Lots of people say it's my siatic nerve. Never been to one before so well see how this goes.
Have yall ever been to one? What am i to expect?

I and my family go regularly. It started because I was experiencing sciatic distress, too. I don't deal with pain in my back, hip, or leg anymore. My eldest son has hardly any ear infections anymore (while he had one every other month before), and whenever any of us has any back, neck, or joint discomfort, she can crack it right out.
Since you've never had it done before, your first adjustment might be a bit unpleasant. If your chiropractor knows his/her shit, you'll feel worlds better afterward, and you'll be hooked. You'll likely be scheduled to go back weekly to start, with decreasing frequency as you improve.
Some chiropractic offices offer heating pads and cold compresses and/or some gym equipment, and they can offer instructional info on therapeutic exercises.
Chiropractic is a good move. Keep us posted.

My dad has been a chiropractor for more years than I have been around. Definitely beneficial. The past several years he has been into the supplements and nutrition thing as well.

Flatassiasis, also referred to as Noassatal, is a terrible affliction. Accept our condolences.

  7. It's more common than you might suspect. I don't think Chiropractic can fix it.

  10. I've got no answers...nor any ass. :/
Been seeing a chiro for years. I believe his work is what keeps me ambulatory (my left hip is a persistent problem. Probably will need replacement some day). He diagnosed my shoulder impingement and set me on the right treatment path. I rarely see an MD since I've been in his care.

I've been to a chiropracter a couple of times, when I threw my back out. The dude I went to did low-impact chiropractic, combined with accupuncture and energy work, and it was phenomenal. When I got to him, my back hurt like all fuck, no matter what position I was in. It took three visits for him to clear it up entirely, so that I was completely pain-free and once more as limber as I get (which I freely admit isn't much, but still). The second time wasn't quite as bad, and it took him two visits. Never was there any major "cracking" of my back: he did very minor adjustments, mostly to my legs and hips, and did a little accupuncture to my forearms and hands, and to my knees, while I was holding onto conductive bars of copper in each hand. Didn't hurt, helped measurably each time.

And, because I was living in LA, he also referred me to an MD to get a MMJ scrip, which not only helped with the back pain, but was just generally awesome to have as long as I lived in CA. Now that shit will cure what ails you.

That's what's missing. I'd like to get on board with someone who does some energy work in conjunction with the physical adjustments. Not sure there are any around here, though.....

Thank you for providing that perspective. I was kind of waiting for it.

I'm not a believer in chiropractic. If you are really interested in it, you can go to your local Doctor of Osteopath. Look for a doctor that has D.O. after their name. They are ready to treat you holistically. Physical therapy, spinal manipulation--they can recommend or do. Their medical knowledge is much better than a D.C. Look up the creds. Chiropractic, when done wrong, is quackery.

As we all know im a fat bastard. So the nutrition thing i will have to work on. I go back monday afternoon for my next appt. He says it will take a few sessions to get it to where there is less pain. He didn't say anything about PT on my first visit. Maybe cause it was my first one. Not sure

I don't hold to chiropractors either. I tend to prefer acupuncture and massage. I just think that treating treating the muscles that hold the bones in place is more holistic. Then again, I have significant connective tissue issues and chiropractors have been personified as the devil throughout my 20s. PT, nutrition, a routine of stretching and progressive exercise might really help. Whatever you seek, I hope it works for you.

Chiropractors won't recommend PT, because that would a) send your money to another practitioner, and b) help you recover so you don't have to keep returning to your chiro. You should see a physical therapist.
