You know I'm not a racists but (anytime someone says that you know some racists crap is coming) for the love of all that is freaking Holy Mexicans do not have a clue when it comes to driving. Add a little rain or bad weather to the roadways and your bound to see a wreck or two every 10 K. If you're lucky you're not in one. Today I was lucky but it was close.

To the lovely, warm and wonderful people of by adopted home- Please learn to fuckin' drive.

Heh. The building superintendent just told Bluntgirl and Chronique to at least open a window. I can smell their enjoyments all the way to my office. I swear, they were trying to hotbox their place. They seem to have been at it since this morning.

It rains here but the normal type of rain is solid rain for a couple hours, then it's back to being sunny. In the rainy season, it rains everyday like this. Yesterday's rain was on of the rare times that it rains for a very long time.

The upside is that the humidity is lower on days like this.

It's been a long time since I've been to the Lion City but from my memory you and I have very similar climates. When I moved away from the beach and into Merida I bought new mini-split A/C's. I bought Samsung's (not sure about how they compare to other brand but here in Mexico Samsung actual provides you with service, not the norm here at all) I got the new "inverter" style. They cost more up front but they use WAY less energy. They advertise about 50% reduction but it's more like 35%. They are very well designed and have several settings I like including just dehydrate the room. They even have a built in heater so they keep the room at whatever temp. you set.

After having them installed for three months I got a bill from the local power company for nearly a 1000 USD. I went down and showed them where the meter showed only about 425 KwH was used and they told me "yes, but we found in our records where you missed two months a year and half ago so the extra charge is for those missed payments." After two weeks of back and forth and not getting anywhere with them trying to explain we didn't move in until Sept this year it got to the point my better half was in tears. I told her to just give up and let it go, I'll just pay it. I told her it wasn't worth the increased blood pressure. She seemed a little shocked but finally agreed. Of course she doesn't know I own a shovel and knew where the underground cable runs. So I'm absolutely not currently spliced into the 220 lines prior to the meter and I certainly don't have a line going directly to the my A/C units. There's also no switch in my broom closet to switch it back through the meter if they ever come to check on why I have a few large A/C units on my roof and yet are not using hardly any power. I figure I won't have to keep running it this way for another 5 months to get my cash back and the cost of the cables and switches to make the installation. Yeah, I'd never do that but it's an interesting thought. But I do have a new plant and some new concrete right over where the underground utilities run.

Skipped dinner/breakfast yet again today. Whatever you call eating at 2030/2100ish before heading to work.
Almost seems like this should bother somehow, oh well.

It was mild, with some ppl in shorts & flip flops today--but it's going down to 1°F in the next day or two. Still no snow to speak of (an inch or 2 instead of 18"). Another weird winter in the Chicago area.

Singapore is hot and humid pretty much all the time. 30c with a chance of thunder storms is the norm for about 95% of the days here. We had those inverter style A/C units in our last couple of condos. They were great. We too mostly used them on the dehydrate setting. It was especially useful this time of year where the humidity is such that your clothes (and everything else) starts to go moldy.

In our latest place, it came as a shell. We decided to use the ceiling fans only and so far there have only been a couple of days where we really wanted aircon. For the most part we are good.

And, it is still raining today. I think we got about a six hour break and it's been raining ever since. Tolerable because I know in about a month or so, it won't rain at all for a couple of months.

Looking forward to lunch this afternoon with Cyn and then a staycation at a hotel downtown tonight. Kinda funny how now getting to watch TV air "live" feels like a luxury since we kissed cable goodbye in 2010.
