Has anybody else tried these "very oddly named" items yet. I had the "Gandalf's Gobble Melt." the other day. I have to admit. it was really good. even though it's nothing more then a turkey sandwich with dressing. The way the prepare it and served on toasted potato bread really works. I think I may have found a new recipe for my turkey leftovers.

We don't have a Denny's here, and the concept just seems strange to me. I get that hobbits love food, but I don't get the whole connection.

I did try several items, because Denny's is the late night shame stop for my friends and me since it is the closest sit down place open crazy late, and I do love food with pun/pop culture based titles.

I had the One Ring burger. Pretty tasty. Also had the Shire Sausage Skillet. Crazy good. I really like skillet stuff.

Also, this happened somehow: Man stuffs Denny's entire Hobbit menu down his Hobbit-hole

There is a slight connection given the characters love of food. But it's mostly nothing more then a advertising gimmick to promote the movie. and I have found most of the items pretty common (except the skillets. so delish.) But that melt really impressed me. Like most American's. I love a good sandwich.

No Denny's in England, but I read the menu online, and i have to confess it looked rather over-engineered.

    Son, that's not over-engineering, that's America. LOL

This reminds me of Umberto Eco's essay on America in his Travels in Hyperreality. Using Disneyland as an example, he basically explains why Americans prefer realistic fabrications over mundane reality.

He wrote an essay on it? Hell I can sum it up in three words...Cause reality sucks! :D

Actually, if I recall, it's more about the what and the how than the why.

AH, then yeah, that would take a few more words. LOL

Actually, I wouldn't mind reading that essay, do you know if it's available online?

I think I'd probably like the Gobble Melt better if it had the gravy poured all over it and was served open-faced. I adore open-faced hot turkey sandwiches. Really, I just like turkey sandwiches.

Open faced hot sandwiches are my absolute favorite. I think it's because bread and gravy are some of my favorite food groups. America.

My kids and I went to Denny's for breakfast on New Year's Day and because we were all really tired (and, yes, a little hungover - some of us, not the 13-year-old!) we all had a bit of a titter about the 'Hobbit Hole Breakfast.'

And apparently it still makes me laugh.

Hobbit Hole Breakfast, good lord. :p

I may have to try the Hobbit Hole Breakfast.

My one trip to Dennys in the past 5 years and I sat there and tried to figure out why anyone would deep fry red pancakes balls with white chocolate chips in them and try to make them related to a movie. Unless they're Gollum's testicles, there's nothing Hobbit-related about it. I that's straight 'neckin.

Yeah, that didn't much sense to me either, guess they are just trying to sell them. They could have added some hot sauce and sell them as Smoug's fireballs. at least it would make some sense..probably wouldn't be that good though.
