I wanna get smarter...

Unless Hollywood has been lying to us - and I don't see why they would - the publishing world is singularly populated by sexually frustrated young women who simply need to take off their glasses and let their hair down out to become absolutely ravishing, fully formed sexual beings. Although they retain a little of that cute awkwardness that attracted us to them in the first place.

The real question is - what the fuck is our Baraka_Guru doing in that world?

The publishing industry is filled with three types: the hot Catherine Keener type, the hot Zooey Deschanel type, and the hot Kat Von D type

That's a really good question. Seriously. WTF?

  3. According to the book Think Smart: A Neuroscientist's Prescription For Improving Your Brain's Performance, we should
    • reduce our cholesterol levels
    • eat walnuts and blueberries daily
    • fish apparently is brain food
    • increase our caffeine intake
There was some other stuff too; the author dedicates a chapter of the book to diet.

Zooey and Emil Deschanel are hot and awkwardly adorable. I love them - in a girl crush kinda way.

I play sudoku and do logic puzzles when my brain seems to be lagging. I need it to work fast and not get distracted by - Oh - what's that shiny thing?

    What was I saying?

What should you eat in order to get smarter???
    Books.

Of course, not literally...but in all seriousness,
Despite some temporary assistance in thinking critically while executing tasks, food or chemicals aren't the answer.

Good health, sleep, stress management and more can overall and the long-term help with your cognitive ability,
but in the end, it is purely your curiosity and innate desire to absorb new material and delve deeper into known material.

All media counts: books, newspapers, magazines, TV, movies, web and oh so much more...
    Watch it all...again & again

If you can set aside your biases, yet learn to filter what is not valid information or perspectives, (although this may become useful later...)
you will slowly enjoy increases in your intelligence and knowledge...no matter what some may state your "brain" stagnating over time or being limited.

If you can't get it the first time...read it again, try it from a different angle, immerse yourself into the topic of interest.
Find someone who can explain it...if their explanation doesn't do it...find another...and so on.
ALL material is of interest too.

It's like that little robot that came to life in the 80's movie Short Circuit, said... "More input, MORE input"

And you'll absorb certain things faster than others...and other things you'll not get as fast as other people.
This is quite natural...everyone is different.
    No matter...keep reading.

Mother Nature doesn't limit people...people limit people.

    Eat it all up.
    Everything is fascinating.
    Life is a banquet.

I think my love for books increased my vocabulary and spelling. I just wish I had more of a love for non-fiction the way I do fiction.

With the exception of "In Cold Blood" I really don't read much non-fiction. I only read that one because my former brother in-law lived down the street from the house where it all happened and I stayed at his house once or twice.

I do the logic puzzles and sudoku to get my brain trained to work the reservations a little bit faster. It was improving my stats when I was doing it on a regular basis. Reading and immersing yourself in your interests is the way to do it if there is a particular topic that you want to know more about.

I tend to read articles about the travel and airline industry and photography for the most part. I also do some reading on technology, leadership, employee moral, and occasionally gun control, politics etc. I think the tricky part in those last few is finding the sources that are not biased. In the internet age it is sometimes hard to find who has the correct information and what is propoganda. The commercial saying that the can't put anything on the internet that isn't true comes to mind.
