'Star Trek Into Darkness': IMAX lands first 9 minutes | Inside Movies | EW.com

Yeah, so holy crap! What better way to get my ass into an IMAX seat?

To watch 9 minutes of the new Star Trek film before feasting my eyes on Peter Jackson's first installment of The Hobbit? Yes please!

I enjoyed the Star Trek reboot. Anyone else?

I can't wait to see where they'll take the new films. After a good "intro" film, I want them to go boldly into the darkness!

Who else is looking forward to the new film?

Those of you who haven't seen the first one, I recommend it. It's highly likeable even if you aren't really into other Star Trek works. It was really well made. Here is the trailer:

I too liked the reboot and am looking forward to seeing the new film.

If they can build on the foundation they have, it should prove amazing.

I am so excited! I really want to see what they'll do with this next Trek installment. I'm really hesitant to see the hobbit in 3d IMAX because of the reviews that indicate it has been nausea-inducing.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Star Trek. I thought the reboot was really well done a proved a great re-introduction to the characters. If they are able to continue the strong writing with a good storyline it should be another hit.

I know of some people who weren't crazy about the reboot. I do not count myself among them. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to future installments, and I'd really like to know what the premise of Into Darkness is supposed to be. The wreckage on the poster almost looks like Borg technology/architecture. Anyone have any insights into the plot?

I really enjoyed this reboot, and if written and produced as well as the first, it will be great to see more of these actors replaying this timeline.

  9. I think I need to revisit the reboot. First time around I really struggled with seeing those pretty kids pretending to be my heroes.

I enjoyed the hell outta the reboot. I was a fan of TOS (I was 8 or 9 when it came out). I thought the reboot did a great job with the characters.

I always thought Uhura was hot, but man.

And Kirk was portrayed as the bad boy he shoulda been. McCoy was great, and Scotty kicked ass, with all respect to Jimmy D.

The Abrams Star Trek remake/boot left me cold.
Mostly, I hate JJ Abrams' work as he's so frackin slick, I feel like I'm gonna slide outta my theatre seat.
I did love Super 8 however, but I consider it an aberration.

But hell, it's entertainment; if you're entertained, that's swell by me.

I think this is an important point. This reboot seems to have won over many hardcore fans (though you can't please everyone). It also is doing the job of bringing in new ones. I can't think of a better result for a reboot in general.

I know! Personality-wise, she's very charming, and then you add on the fact that she's absolutely stunning.

Not Shatner, but certainly well chosen to "update" Kirk's personality/demeanour.

This is Urban's best role to date. He was brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him as Bones.

You know, I can't think of many who could pull this role off the way Pegg does. Naturally funny for comic relief, but believably serious when the need is there. I'm a huge Simon Pegg fan.

This is what it comes down to for me. It's space opera. I'm not expecting a heck of a lot of depth. I want heroics and big action.

Ditto, it's all about entertainment, and it was entertaining as all get out.

Must remind myself that teasers are called teasers for a reason. Must see more; must know more.

They have to do a better villian this time. That cardboard thin Nero character in the last one would have been weak on a tv episode and was little help at best for a film. Some kind of radical twist with well known characters would be a superb choice, especially if they use the Borg a good century earlier in this timeline or anything else like that.

I agree about a better baddie. I don't even remember the bad guy from Abram's first effort. Also, other than looking pretty, I don't recall Uhura being given much to do. Karl Urban was perfectly cast, however. That is about all I took away from the film.

I agree with all of what you posted, FG, but this part in particular. He nailed the 'Bones' McCoy role.

All of the characters in the first film were pretty much spot on imho, they basically reminded me of more youthful versions of their TOS originals; for example I can reasonably see Pine's bad boy and Quinto's by the book procedure nazi maturing over the years into TOS Kirk and Spock, each one balancing the other out a bit. Likewise chekov grows a pair and stops being so uncomfortable about his heritage, Scotty grows attached to the Enterprise, and Sulu comes out of the closet.

Well we've seen a single externally human character with obviously far greater than normal strength, he was swinging an artillery-sized weapon around like it was a rapier in the teaser. The voiceover was also talking about coming back, and he's been described as neither strictly good nor strictly evil... Personally I'm thinking either eugenics or given the ridiculous size of that gun cybernetics.
