I don't know, I don't even know that we have it in us to change. People have some amount of feet in the animal world and some amount of feet in the "pretending we're not animals" world. There will always be people who abandon all pretense of empathy for momentary person gain. There will also always be people who won't. There will always be random, banal tragedy.

Shit like this is why I hug my loved ones tight.

Bodkin van Horn -- I see your point about the photographer and maybe not believing his story, but if the pics were so dark that the post editors (who bought them) had to drastically alter them with filters before running them, then I think there is some credibility to his statements. The pic doesn't bother me merely because we tout pictures from war ravaged areas, areas hit by natural disasters etc but when we see one pic of one person dying and it's coupled with this type of headline, we get all stupid.

Tully Mars -- please. Don't sully HBO by associating them with Spartacus. That script for that show isn't even worthy to be used as toilet paper by their writers. HBO puts out good to great series... not roman era 50 shades tripe. ;)

Sorry, my bad. I'd never seen the show before that afternoon. No idea who writess, produces or airs it. My brother loves it and obviously his wife will watch it until she sees a bare breast. No idea what she does if there's male nudity. She looked like she was going to have an organism watching the two men beat each other to death.

I question their taste, mainly because they watch Fox News all day and he's got Rush or some other nutbag on the radio in his car nonstop. He used to be sane and whenever we'd go somewhere he'd have on either decent music or sports. Now it's right wing nuttery at it finest and he's often yelling back at the dash while he drive.

I feel really sad because in many ways I've lost a brother. Haven't spoken to him in almost a year now. It's almost like he joined a cult. I can assure you my father is rolling over in his grave.

That sucks, man. I was just teasin' ya about HBO but yeah Spartacus has plenty of cock-a-doodle-doo in it so not sure what his wife would do either. Then again, most of that fringe right wing sect has such double standards, that it wouldn't surprise me if they well... I'll just stop it there before I derail the thread further.

We talked about this in my classroom last week. My kids responded with absolute horror that something like this would show up on the cover of a newspaper. We had to explain to them that the NYPost aims to shock. They also couldn't believe that no one would help. I left that day feeling really proud of my students.

Photographer: ‘No way’ I could have saved subway victim
    R. Umar Abbasi, a freelance photographer for the New York Post, talks about the controversial photo he took of the man about to be hit by a subway train after being pushed onto the tracks, saying he was attempting to alert the driver and there was “no way” he could have rescued the man.
