I bet there is rarely a man who laments that he 'should be cleaning his house'--unless he's got a woman behind him 'encouraging' him to do so.
That said, I think the same thing (I should be cleaning) every single day of my life (except when I'm at the cottage--where a bit of sand on the floor is the norm). Slave to what, housework? Yech.

There were some 13 nominations among 9 Canadian artists for the 55th Grammy Awards.

Number of nominations given to Nickelback: 0
Number of nominations given to Justin Bieber: 0

Thank you, Grammy board, for not encouraging them.

My husband did some of the housework before he left for work this morning, hence why I feel obligated to do my part.

Yes, but was he mentally beating himself up before he did it?
Also, any guy that does housework without being prompted is a gem in my book.

Well, I wouldn't say I was mentally beating myself up earlier, either, just acknowledging that I have a party to host this weekend and a to-do list a mile long as a result. Better to get started on these things now than have to rush through cleaning everything on Saturday morning. Personally, cleaning is something I enjoy doing, as it yields instant results and makes my mind feel at ease. I'm one of those people whose cluttered desk v. clean desk really reflects my state of mind.

I took it upon myself a couple of years ago to do all the laundry all the time (wasn't even because the wife asked or hinted). Does that count as housework?

Even if it was because I am picky about how the laundry is done and I decided it was just better to do it myself than complain about how it was done? :p

This. My husband is responsible for certain things around the house because he is nitpicky about them (i.e. folding towels); the reverse is also true. Some chores our performance is equal, and those are shared.

    I am terrible with housework.

My SO will attest to that.

Honestly, I think women took up those tasks because it would save much more time and energy to just do it than to get guys like me to do wrap their heads around it. Maybe it would work, if they offered steak 'n blowjob rewards for completion of those tasks?

Plan9 's military-shaped cleaning and ironing techniques should be the orgasmic dream of most women.

    Hur hur.

My husband does just fine with many housework-related tasks. I think a large part of it is that he was raised in a home where his mother and father split the housework fairly. My husband's paternal grandmother was and is very insistent that men should know how to do things we would traditionally think of as "women's work" in order to be able to take care of themselves. My husband is an excellent cook, sews better than I do, and can clean as well as I do.

Talking about organization theory with my SO.

Apparently the main respected feminists in the Business field argue for women and men to be treated differently.

I shall talk with her more about that and then see what the feminists on this board think about that.

    Bwahahahahaah.

They sound like they're at least one wave behind, or at least ignorant of developments since postmodernism, but business communities tend to be really conservative.

Did anyone else notice that this topic is missing a page 871. It jumps form 870 to 872. Did 871 get lost on its way to the site?

    Interesting point.

SO's take: "It's actually the opposite, as those feminists are part of the contemporary Equality Movement. They're saying that there are significant differences in men and women, and the external pressures they face are the main cause of these differences. Specifically, they maintain that Feminism in business has to take a step back from their primary glass-ceiling-shattering objective and re-evaluate how these differences affect both genders within the business environment, in order for the realities of the current situation to be addressed in a constructive manner, rather than destructive for both men and women in business."

I want to note, though, that I find it hilarious that as soon as a Feminist opinion against the mainstream pops up, it is branded as backwards and as "one wave behind".

I do most of the housework. My SO takes mini-us to activities and I take advantage of the absence to clean floors, vacuum & do laundry. I grew up with my folks sharing the housework, and we were brought into the tasks that were appropriate for our ages/abilities.

Well, I don't think launching into a discussion of social constructs, bodies, and cyborgs in the PA thread is the best of ideas.
