Am I a dork for wanting to go see a country concert?

I grew up hating country. My parents listened to it and I couldn't stand it. I've always had a very diverse musical taste, but country was never in it. The last few years I've found myself liking some of it, even to the point where I'll buy music that is country. One of the artists that I like is Jason Aldean, and he's playing near me this Saturday night. I can get aisle seats, 17 rows back, right in front of the stage for a little over $100 each. I'm talking myself into it and back out of it every five minutes. Help!

I like country, but I'm a country boy at heart. I'm more of a twangy country fan and I love me some Hank, Waylon, and Cash. Willy Nelson's Red Headed Stranger is one of my favorite country albums in the world. I also like 90's pop country because I was raised on that. I know me some Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and George Straight.

I say, go for it. If you like it, you like it.

  3. I say go for it. I'm not a huge country fan - I listened to it exclusively in the late 80's and early 90's because that's what my mom listened to - but I don't care much for the music that's been put out since and I couldn't tell you who the hot stars are nowadays. However, I am planning on going to see Dwight Yoakam in October and I can't wait. I love me some Dwight.

    Ourcrazymodern? still, wondering

I like that song "Alcohol" & "Don't Blink" makes me cry. Don't worry about being a dork unless you think you're in bad company.

I grew up with my mom listening to country, and my dad being a classic rock guy.... but I will say, country bands know how to put on a show and start a party....

Some of the best concerts I've been to have been country shows. I'm not a huge fan of Jason Aldean, but he has a couple songs I like. Go for it, man.

Streak nailed it for me - some of the best concerts I've been to were a Kenny Chesney headlined by Gretchen Wilson and Pat Green.

i'm not a huge country fan, but one of the concerts i was forced to go to due to a gf was epic. i loved every minute of it.

if an artist is good they are good, genres don't mean much if the musicians are skilled. i can enjoy that.

~ i re-read ops post and decided $100 a seat is not worth it for any band.

  10. No, you are not a dork for wanting to see a country music concert.

However, asking if you are a dork on an interent forum might indicate otherwise. :p

Agreed! If you like the music and don't mind paying the ticket price, I say go for it! Does it really matter what artist or genre it is if you're going to have a great time? Enjoy!

    Doh!!!

I ended up buying them. StubHub prices dropped a little more overnight (see my "Stubhub" thread in General Discussion for strategy to get better deals on tickets), so I ended up getting aisle seats in the 3rd row for the same price as the seats I was looking at last night in the 17th row. And the seats that I bought this morning are e-delivery, so I saved $12.95 in delivery fees.

Dorks, dorks... mmm, that isn't the right word for country music.

I've been to quite a few country concerts and I enjoyed all of them.

George Strait (old school) to Rascal Flatts (Chuck Taylor country).

Most of it is too slow or mushy for me, but sometimes the mood strikes.

I was listening to B.W. Stevenson in the office this morning, actually.

Ya go see him. A bunch of my cousins went to see him when he was in town last month and said it was one of the best concerts they've been too.

I'm not a huge country fan, I like Rascal Flats and I am a Big & Rich fan, yeah, I know, they're not so much country as they are rock. I say go for it.

Hell yeah man. Jason Aldean is awesome. I'll be at his show here in a few weeks. Country concerts are actually pretty fun because there seems to be less stupidity and drama than at the rock or rapcrap shows.

  17. I've seen Hanson live...so I can't really say anything, because THAT is dorky. In my defense, I went because my friend wanted to go and didn't have anyone to go with her obviously. It's not like we were 12. We were college girls at the time and YES surrounded by 12 year olds screaming that they wanted to marry a Hanson kid.

We did meet some people at the concert that were her Hanson Forum buddies. One was a mom in her 40s. Her kids were not the Hanson fans.

They have a new album out now, and I kind of like their new single, Give a Little. I heard it a lot on TV when I was in rehab.

    They're so grown up....awwwwwwwe.

But yeah. Go and have fun. Who cares?

Soemtimes the country stuff can be really cool with fun parties included at the concert. I'm more blue grass in a small venue but the time me and the hub saw Garth Brooks flying around in north Texas was one helluva lot of fun and my 6 friends and I had a GREAT Time!

Be open and willing. It's sometimes a killer good experience!!!

I'm not big on new country, but you should never be embarrassed or apologetic about the music you like. My musical tastes have changes by a wide margin over the years, and has often left my friends wondering whats wrong with me. But you like what you like, and liking music outside of your norm is good. Means you actually like music, and not just the newest name to come along. Besides, a good live performance can often transcend genre anyway and just become one helluva good show.

agreed. Fast As You and Little Sister are still two of my favorite songs period, not just country songs. I also liked his Suspicious Minds cover, and the album he did with Buck Owens.

I can't condone going to a Jason Aldean concert. I can, however, condone going to just about any female country singer's concert. They have to be the most consistently hot batch of women across any music genre.
