It was only on one pic...

I'm wondering if it was a copyright issue, but it had a link to TOS and all that so who knows if that is coming down the pipe or if they're gonna change it.

I won't miss it that much either if they go stupid. I still have a (too large) tumblr roll.

did you notice this new 'verify your website' thing? they want to 'verify' the personal website you post on your profile page. that seemed odd to me. i'm not doing it because there is nudity on my blogger blog...quite a lot of it on the first page at the moment. :p

I haven't seen it, but that combined with what I saw earlier doesn't sound good. Oh well.

So, just found out (still waiting on the bloodwork, but the doc is almost positive about it) that I have rheumatoid arthritis. I am officially an old man. I'm buying a cane and everything. I think I might even buy a fedora and some suspenders.

    oh man.

I seriously hope you don't. It's a bitch. If you do have it though, I can give you some tips/pointers and some referrals to great docs up at Duke that I use that have helped me tremendously. I have RA and Fibromyalgia so yeah, I'm crossin' mah fingers that your ANAs and all that show up negative.

Oh and get a second opinion. There's a doc around here that always diagnoses RA even if people don't have it. She's currently under investigation but the point is when you're diagnosed with a life altering disease, always, always get a second opinion - preferably from a high ranking doc/university (have I mentioned that Duke is amazing and ranked top 5 in the nation? ;) )

The doc says that I have almost a textbook case of it. You are not a TFP/facebooker on my list, so you haven't seen my posts about it. I feel like an old man, my ankles/knees/elbows (on both sides of my body) all swollen 3x their size and cinn has to help me down steps and down the hallways at work. It's bad. If it isn't RA, then it's gout which I don't want either. It's something horrible, at least RA is manageable.

  8. I like shaking my cane at the young whippersnappers that won't get off my dang lawn.

I have literally shaken one at young punks on campus. It was fun.

You have insurance? Cuz remicaide is $$$$$ but it works wonders. Just be prepared to catch every fucking cold possible due to how much it lowers your immune system.

RA is manageable but don't fool yourself it's a bitch and a half. You'll have good weeks and really, really REALLY bad weeks.

I'm getting insurance in the next two weeks. The doctor I saw today isn't going to report my findings till I get a physical with her and then I will magically get it. That way the insurance company doesn't know in the beginning.

I figure it's going to be hell, but trying to stay positive about it. We are all breaking down and shit will stop working. Might as well laugh about it til it hurts to much to laugh.

Arrrgh! Fucking Duke. They're everywhere today. Sorry, they just turned me down for an interview for internship.
They thought I had RA and it ended up being fibro.

Lordeden - sorry to hear that. I'll refrain from obvious "lupus" jokes or jokes about your second job as a jizz-mopper. 'Cause that's the way I roll.

Seriously, I'm at least glad that you've got a tentative diagnosis. That gives you a plan, which can be the most important thing, even if it's wrong.

    Good deal.

You're right. It's good to laugh and have fun and I do it too, it's just some days make it really difficult. You may have to move into a bigger house though. I can't imagine bending over in your little hobbit house is good for your joints.

Did they test you for Lyme, Mr. Rural North Carolina, just out of curiosity? Hopefully it was a full immuno-rheumo set of panels.

I take Humira, which is a TNF inhibitor like Remicade, but more convenient because you can inject at home. My insurance pays for it which is good because it's several thousand per month at the dosage level I'm taking. A lot of the treatments for Crohn's are similar or identical to RA, since they're both autoimmune.

I go to great lengths to avoid sick people as much as humanly possible. I've held off on family visits because people have had colds or flus. Friends and family are generally aware that I'm on an immunosuppressive and understanding that I don't want to expose myself if it isn't absolutely necessary.

The way I see it, it's better to know what's going on and work towards treatment. We all got problems. Do what you gotta do to keep yourself going.

There's a part of me that's looking forward to the day my knees get bad enough for me to need a cane. It will complement my grumpy old man persona nicely.

Humira was something I considered too... and I've heard good things about it. Glad it's working for you :)

The pens hurt like a bitch, but it's only a few seconds a week, and honestly I'd rather put up with that than have to go to the clinic/hospital for infusions. The syringes may be less painful -- I'm not sure, since I haven't done them. The pens are nice because they're convenient and simple to work, there's not anything really to fuck up with them. Swab the site, push the button, count to ten, cotton ball. Done.

Right now, I just want to feel better than I do now. This flare up (if it is RA) is horrible. I feel like I'm walking around on knifes when I wake up in the morning. Cinn has to help me walk down hallways in the house and find clothes for me cause I can't walk around to try and find my shoes.

    It's never Lupus.

I am very limited on what I can test for now (cause I got no insurance), so when I get my policy in effect, I'll get more bloodwork done. I can't afford a battery of tests right now.

A hobbit house is a perfect size for hobbits. It's you large folk that have the problems here in the shire.

    *****

Right now I haven't talked to her about meds yet, we want the blood tests to come back first. Then I'll look at how much this is going to cost. One step at a time.
