We're having some friends over. I'm grilling chicken thighs, burgers, cubed potatoes and onions, corn, and the wife made a fruit salad.

Yeah, the curry powder is pretty close to the seasoning of this soup. I'd probably consider it myself, except we don't typically have it on hand, just most of the component parts.

The cauliflower would be a great addition. Maybe I'll consider it myself if I still have some kicking around.

I realized yesterday that I have a pretty complex pantry. I have several curries on hand at any time across cuisines. I have three different masala seasoning mixes. Italian seasonings? Sure. Japanese seasonings? Why, yes. Indian seasonings? Absolutely. Thai seasonings? Yup, got those too. I might have a problem.

You guys and your weird fancy soups.

This simpleton here loves himself some hearty German soups. Like Eintopf with Bockwurst.

Well, given that I am typically cooking something my husband will want to eat too, German cuisine is pretty much out. It tends to have meat in most dishes and the few veggie soups there are have ingredients he doesn't care for (lentils, squash).

I threw in some smoked mussels and made a meal out of it.

    It's all good.

We had pizza instead as hubby didn't want to cook. We're in that phase of packing. Cooking = dirty dishes we can't pack!

I made stir-fry. I did up some super firm tofu cubes in a separate pan, to make sure I got them crispy (after I pressed the water out). Then started with thin sliced shiitakes, garlic, sesame oil, a little schezuan and traditional stir-fry sauces, and some soy sauce. Then added thinly julienned zucchini and yellow pepper, matchstick carrots, onion, and baby bok choy ribs. Tossed in the tofu, then added thinly sliced brussel sprouts and the bok choy leaves, thin sliced of course. Added more stir-fry sauces as needed, a little hoisin to thicken, and served over a few soba noodles that I'd cracked in half so they were the same length as the bok choy. I liked it!

We made spaghetti tacos with meatballs. My kids are iCarly fans and we thought we'd give it a try. Definitely sounds better than it tastes. Leave it on the TV and out of the kitchen.
