I've been joking about it today that depending on the election results I'd consider moving to Canada. I don't know how seriously I would really consider doing that so my question is...would any of you think about moving out of the US based on who the president is?

No. I've considered moving out of the US for way more reasons than that. And let me tell you...it isn't easy. Or cheap.

The unemployment rate in Alberta is currently sitting at 4.5%

    Just sayin'.

My wife is saying so, if Obama wins...she's going to Canada...perhaps Vancouver.

    hmm...you think I could do a long-distance relationship??
It would certainly be much quieter.

Is she aware that they're actually socialist up there? Not any of the "I say 'socialist' as a way to bring back the McCarthy Era scare" that we have going on now. Actual real live socialists.

She needs to pay for her own damn health care, though. ;)

Just read an article yesterday on CNN on moving to Canada that said how expensive and cumbersome that process is these days.
Don't see much point to move just because of an election. The political regime will change soon enough if you think it is so horrible for whatever reasons.

Yeah, it's not the president but Congress that bothers me. It takes a long time to get that to shift but it appears that has begun.

the election doesn't concern me so much as the paralysis of conventional politics does.

Why would a conservative move to Vancouver to get away from Obama? That doesn't make any sense.

Romney might not be the best, but there were other GOP primary candidates or Paul Ryan where I would have looked into taking a 4 year 'vacation' around the world.

I'm already out of the country. Now I'm just waiting for the news footage of Ted Nugent being carted off to jail or the morgue.

Uhh...my wife is a VERY passionate woman...so I actually expect her to say these things.
But if she can get over the Yankees losing so badly in the playoffs at the end...I think she'll survive this.

I'll just keep my winning mouth shut...it will still be quiet though. :D

Regardless of the results, I can say that living abroad is a great choice for anyone.

The funny thing is that Vancouver and British Columbia are disproportionately tilted that way politically compared to the rest of Canada. Very much so.

That province is governed by green liberals and social democrats (i.e., socialists not keen on revolution). To conservatives, it's a political wasteland.

rogue49's wife would best move to Alberta, the Texas of the North.

I concur. Even if I left here I'd probably move to another foreign (to me) country. The US has just gone over the tilt in my opinion. Think about the guy that almost won tonight. Doesn't believe in science but does believe corporations are people... my friend. Scary shit.

Plus there's a lot of interesting places in the world. Go check them out while you can.

I do have the ability to move abroad. I would do so if I really felt it was that bad.

Honestly, I'm hoping all these horrible things you folks are talking about happen in the near future so I can, you know, get it on with my mohawk-war-paint-night-vision-goggles-bear-spear-day-glo-loincloth Viking Road Warrior modern steampunk retro Armageddon fantasies. Let's be frank: all this everybody-cool civilization has grown to be super boring for thrill-seekers like me and, hell, I live outside one of the most violent parts of the US.

I gotta be honest: I voted for our hero Romney because I feel like he's the one that'll get me the closest to that first glorious scalp hanging on my belt.

    j/k

I've never had the chance to travel abroad. My situation right now definitely does not lend itself to any extended travel.

I've always thought Canada would be my best chance at visiting another country since I'm within a days drive of the border. Maybe someday soon.

I have cousins in another country. I have couches I could comfortably live on if it came down to it. I'd rather now. I'd rather move abroad because my husband got a bitchin' job for a multinational.

The cool thing is, as a teacher, you can pretty much go anywhere and find work.
