Have not seen that film yet but I am familiar with the historical details. The thought of Tom Cruise playing a German officer who is somehow missing any kind of proper accent sounds like it ranks up there with Kevin Costner playing Robin Hood with that midwestern accent of his and no trace of a regional UK one.
There are good reasons you watch Das Boot with the original German audio even if you may not speak the language rather than touch that pointless dubbed English audio.
