Will there be riots if Romney wins the election?

I'm not sure what purpose the far right (conspiracy types) have for bringing this up, but with the Mayan clock ticking away on the front page, and the fiscal cliff issue that would be hanging over a lame duck session (and the Democrats would want to see how Romney will deal with the real problems if he takes office in Jan.) Plus the cities of Chicago, NYC, and LA would probably be on fire or worse... Just look at Europe, especially if food stamps programs are slashed. But imagine the Europeans have guns, Molotov cocktails, and other weapons. Even just simple arson and looting would be hard to stop if tens of thousands are pissed off enough.

But I can't say that I disagree with the premise that there would be riots, and things could get pretty ugly, pretty fast. This wouldn't be Occupy Wall Street, this would be Burn Wall Street.

I would really worry if it was another Bush v Gore situation, since even that issue has never been resolved. If it was one state and just a few hundred or thousand votes that decide it all again.

It would be interesting to watch from down in Mexico where I would be in late January.

 

Let's just hope that anyone who would take to the streets and riot in the event of a Romney win would at least have also been to the polls and voted. Provided they hadn't in some way been disenfranchised from the process, that is.

I've been trying to get some information on this from a "reliable" source and am coming up empty. Is the RW blowing this out of proportion or are the tweets "flowing in" truly "flowing in" in a manner that justifies concern?

 

There is just as much chance of a riot if Obama wins. Only in that riot, the rioters will be well armed. (I'm only half kidding).

 

i think its a real possiblity and brought it up on another thread about dhs and other federal agencies stockpiling hollopoint ammo. the government is preparing for it anyway. i dont think this idea exists only in the conspiracy realm anymore. i mean people riot over sporting events so it's not a strech to say it's possible especially if there is some electioneering going on an it's a close race.

 

Several months ago, Alex Jones (InfoWar) claimed that the government purchased a massive amount of hollow point bullets and was arming Social Security agents to put the down the post-election riots and confiscate your guns.

Over the last four years, Jones claimed:

Obama will reinstitute the draft​

Obama and the govt will stage a fake assassination attempt on Obama blaming Islamists and Tea Party (but on which he will survive) in order to put troops on the street​

Obama and the govt will stage a terror attack (nuke or biological) to get his ratings up​

Obama and the government will shut down the Internet​

Obama and the government will create an intentional financial collapse​

Oh and the government is preparing for an alien invasion.

 

you can see these 'tweets' materialize into real spontaneous protest and looting where dozens of youths just take over a shop. it's not a stretch to say it could happen after the eleciton.

This is so Alex Jones. The guy who claims to have documents proving the government is behind a biochemical program which creates homosexuals - this, in order to lower the birth rate in America.

 

The GOP wanting a riot if Romney loses????? Then the radical right is claiming there will be riots if Obama loses???? Fear tactics to divide and conquer.... Seriously, why would ANYONE riot over the election? Why would there be anyone wanting revolution and bloodshed?

I am beginning to believe that people have gone nuts and truly are becoming psychotic enough to kill simply because someone has a different political philosophy then them. And right winged talk show hosts that make more in 1 year than their average listener and follower would make in 200 lifetimes are the ones really amping this up and practically drooling over the possibilities.

But WHY????? The TP claims that "blood may have to be spilled IF they don't get what they want". I thought the TP wanted the nation back. However, IF there are riots, the very LAST thing we will ever have again are the freedoms we enjoy and have now.

Our country is so divided, paranoid and hateful of each other, that there are many who would rather destroy everything for the purpose of them getting what they want. And to be honest, I don't think a vast majority of them truly know what they would be fighting for, they would just follow what those radicals they have been listening to for years would tell them to do.

I am absolutely amazed at how people don't care what or who Mitt Romney is they would vote for an empty chair just to get Obama out. That is what scares me most. I truly believe that these people should have been given the opportunity to see Gary Johnson on that debate stage. Seriously, the people behind the debates and controlling them should be forced to put ANYONE THAT CAN THEORETICALLY (REALISTICALLY OR NOT) WIN THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE ON THAT STAGE TO BE HEARD. IF Obama loses I pray Gary Johnson wins, but that won't happen because not enough people care enough to see what Romney truly stands for and what Gary Johnson represents. So very very sad and terrifying.

 

The battle between the poor/middle class and the upper class is coming to a head, no doubt. A lot of poor and middle class view this election as a do or die effort to keep the wealthy from totally rolling over them. On the flip side, the very wealthy view this election as an opportunity to nail the coffin down on policies that prevent them from draining the remaining drops of economic wealth for themselves.

Considering the highly contentious nature of the past 5 or 6 election cycles, if some rioting were to occur, no matter which candidate won, I would not be surprised despite how much I might hope it won't. I can see a resurgence of the OWS movement in the event of a Romney win, though.

Gary Johnson? I don't find anything attractive about extremism.

Back in the 90s, the Secret Service came to my high school, tracked down this girl, and took her away for questioning when she sent an e-mail to Clinton wanting to kill him. Yes, I would not want to have that job now. People thinking they are anonymous on-line will lead to so many threats now and in the last administration, I doubt they could follow up on every one.
