Subtle but sexy halloween costume

Hi everyone, I hope you can help me.

I have a Halloween party to go to, there are a couple of live bands playing and we need to dress up. I'm recently single (after a 9 yr relationship), and I don't go out much. There is a guy going that I quite like and would like to make a favourable impression. I would like to stand out for a change but not look trashy!

Probably can't help: personally, I'm a sucker for chicks in superhero or sci-fi cosplay. So unless this dude you fancy is a geek, like me, that won't help you.

My best advice: if you tend to slender, leather or vinyl. Doesn't really matter what the costume is. Tight leather or vinyl will never go amiss. If you tend to thick and curvy, anything wenchy with a corset.

It's Halloween. Unless you're actually a Celt celebrating the solemn holiday of Samhain, the only excuse for the existence of Halloween is a free pass on slutty costumery. So go with it.

I think whatever you pick, subtly sexy is best in public versus full on slutty which screams desperate.

 

I think he may be a geek! He is a computer programmer, has a whiteboard to track his unfinished PS3 games, downloads Japanese anime, is a walking encyclopedia on tv series and famous people/ animated characters/ who voiced what! Most of all he views reddit on a daily basis! Oh and I believe he has been to some sort of 'convention' but that was in secret. So I suspect he might be a geek!

I half thought about cat woman? But I'm unsure of how to make a costume or where to get one that looks decent. Most of the people I see dressed up look like they have bought cheap plasticy one size fits most costumes! They never tend to fit me and I think they look tacky!

Fangirl I'm not so sure I could pull off a sexy big bird - I think I would kill myself laughing all night!

Thanks for the suggestion Tully but I think there will be lots of slutty naughty nurses, all of whom will be skinny as rakes - I'm more average sized - not skinny but not fat!

 

I can't really add to this. I'm admittedly confused by the idea that people dress up on Halloween in the US in ways that have nothing to do with Halloween as I know it.

Just dress in whatever is most flattering, I guess.

If you wanted to go for something more traditionally related to Halloween, I think witches and devils are probably more sexy and flattering then alternatives.

 

You could go all out with clothes and make up that stay aligned with a certain time period. Not so hard to pull off.

I love Mad Men and think Christina Hendricks...Joan...is THE sexiest woman EVER! 60's Sexretary! Sultry and refined.

I have a whiteboard, but it is used for nothing even close to games, or the tracking of them.

Yes. It is very, very wrong. It's topical tho' (one of the presidential candidates wishes to effectively, kill Big Bird).
All I can add is that I agree, the costume should be fun and that you should be comfortable in it. You are becoming that character for the night so choose who you'd like to become--who you'd enjoy being briefly.

I just wish I could pull this kind of look off, I seem to miss the mark every time!

I think this could be the key - I guess I have to like what I'm wearing and feel confident otherwise it just wont work!

I thought cat woman would be an easy choice of costume but its proving to be tricky!

Getting excited - I've made a start on my costume - just bought a unitard! Never even knew such things existed amazing what you can find with a little help from google. If you want see what it looks like search "ASOS PETITE Slash Back Unitard" I wonder how you even get it on! It looks a bit like leggings and t shirt stitched together - hope its not like my wetsuit where you have to squeeze in through the neck!

 

Not a bad idea, although, to be fair, Christina Hendricks would be scorchingly hot dressed in anything.

Or nothing....

 

Will we get to see the finished costume?

 

Don't forget to take a good wine that would compliment the costume.
