Here's a good one I was just reminded of today on my drive to work

  3. Very cool, Nik! Ten Years after was one of my all time favorite concerts!

Here's another... 1971, I saw these guys at the Cinderella Ballroom on Detroit's east side. They blew me away!

Larry McCray rolls through Bay City every summer, and him and Kenny Wayne Shepherd are about the only two live blues bands I've ever seen
I swear I'll make one of Clapton's Guitar Festivals one of these days.

I saw Kenny Wayne in Clio, MI at an outdoor amphitheater, where he played a 20 min version of Vodoo Chile, and it is still the best concert I have scene to this date

  5. Kenny Wayne played an in-studio set at WRIF a few weeks ago. Gave us a signed guitar for my store's customer rewards program. Pretty cool dude!

Hey Nikilidstrom! We're gonna be in Pinconning for Thunderstock next Saturday. Down for some Rock and Roll?

Y'know, grumpyolddude , I was thinking about Ms 'acquired taste' Joplin, and this one you'd also posted a few days ago.

I was thinking about how, in MMA, it's the guys who 'leave it all in the ring', and in performance, someone who can leave it all on the stage who will always gets my vote. You know ... people who can make the song their own, and ride it like Luke Skywalker's final Deathstar approach, but needing no Han Solo to back them up; people so RAW they make ravenous wolves sound processed.

I was thinking "Joplin. Oh and Joe Cocker ... and often Robert plant" ... and also of the great artists featured in this thread

Then Wham! ... Van Morrison! He pays his dues and also constantly hits home runs as a band-leader, as he inspires some of the finest musicians in the world to find reserves of testosterone and oestrogen even they didn't know they had.

I mean ... jus' listen to this ... Aw heck ... I'm sure you've heard it before! ... when I first heard this, it stopped my world. And when he'd finished, I was so .. taught.

    Bring It On Home

That Kenny Wayne version of Voodoo Chile had so much. I've heard the Hendrix emulators. This is one of the few true homages of this song that I've come accross and thank you so much for introducing me to it. I reckon it was assisted in no trivial way by that vocalist who brings class which, to me, is reminiscent of the late James Dewar - Robin Trower's singer.

No problem. Love it when people find out about Shepherd for the first time, as he and BB King were my introduction to the blues as a teenager. They originally had Corey Sterling on lead vocals, but IMO his voice wasn't very suited for blues, and didn't work out, so they replaced him with Noah Hunt, who has a much more powerful voice.

The Roadside used to be my local watering hole during and right after college, but with my current job and the usual clientele, it probably wouldn't be a great idea for me to show up there on a drinking night. If those bands they have listed are any good, though, you should have a great time, as it will be a killer venue. Probably blow the doors off of the place. If ya need directions, let me know, I'm sure I can help.

  12. So sad that a large portion of the population only knows Van Morrison for Brown Eyed Girl and Moon Dance. Those are great, but he has so much more to offer!

And, speaking of Joe Cocker... I was lucky enough to catch the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour when it stopped in Detroit. It was Good Friday in 19(censored). Leon Russell, Chris Stanton, Rita Coolidge... what a show! This isn't Cocker's most bluesy tune, but I love it:
